Tripler Army Medical Center – Repair G1B Electrical Unit Substation

Project Description

Work under this contract included installation of new electrical package to replace the existing substation. This bid-build project relied heavily on HMS’s input for added value design changes that were incorporated to eliminate electrical power disruptions to patient care. Work included site work, concrete and turn-key construction of a new building to house new low and medium voltage equipment. Demolition of the old substation couldn’t happen until the new substation was complete and energized. There were over 70 existing electrical panelboards feeding over 1,000 circuits that had to be cutover. Electrical package included 15Kv & 4.16Kv medium voltage assemblies for both normal and emergency power, 8- 1200A switchboards, multiple 1200A closed transition ATS’s, and integration of all electrical equipment into the campus wide power monitoring system. The new building design was metal stud construction and included HVAC, lighting and fire protection systems.
